Tips for Choosing Your Countertops
by Janna Chappell, EDGEhomes Designer
Choosing the right countertops for your home is an important decision. Color, material, and price point are the main factors in choosing the right countertop, but because there are so many different color trends, distinct materials, and varying price points involved when selecting countertops, it can be a little tricky to make the right selection.
That being said, don’t let choosing countertops stress you out too much. Even though there’s a lot of information out there and options to choose from, we’re here to break everything down for you. So let’s talk about countertop ideas.
Let’s do a quick comparison of the functional and visual benefits of each of the countertop options that EDGEhomes has to offer.
EDGEhomes provides a 2cm granite countertop as the included option for our kitchens. Which is pretty exciting, because granite is a beautiful and timeless material! Here are a few more benefits of having granite countertops in your home:
- Once sealed, granite is stain resistant.
- Granite is sanitary (non-porous).
- The various minerals within granite add depth and character making every granite top different.
- The color of your granite countertop will never fade.
- Granite countertops add value to your home.
- Granite is extremely strong and won’t get scratched as easily as other surfaces.
Granite countertops are great for homebuyers who want a more traditional, transitional, or classic look in their homes. Granite countertops look great with a variety of flooring options and painted or stained cabinets. They are very versatile and aesthetically pleasing in any home.
Granite countertops effortlessly make a home look more appealing, valuable, and put together. There’s a sense of prestige to granite countertops that everyone loves and wants. And even though granite countertops may be a pricier option to begin with, they give back way more in the long run with how long they last, how well they keep, and how much resale value they add.
EDGEhomes also offers several quartz options for kitchen or bathroom countertops. Quartz is a manufactured product from natural materials. Because quartz is manufactured, there is a wider range of colors than you’ll find with granite, providing you with more options to decorate and design. It has the same hardness and durability as granite and doesn’t require any sealants (it is naturally non-porous). It provides a more contemporary look for homebuyers who want the same quality and durability as granite but a more simple and minimalistic look. The variety of colors allows you to pair your countertop with different colored wood cabinets as well, giving you the opportunity to get in touch with your inner interior designer. As an added bonus, all of our quartz and granite countertops come with under-mounted sinks which are very easy to clean and easy on the eyes!
Cultured marble is a great option for bathroom countertops. One of the greatest benefits to cultured marble countertops is that it is very affordable. It is a solid surface and very easy to clean because the sinks are seamless and the entire surface is smooth. Many people also love the clean and simple look that cultured marble provides. It doesn’t have a lot of grain or variation in it, so it has a very classic and timeless look—a perfect complement to a variety of cabinet colors and styles.
Adding decorations on top of this counter is easy to do because of the minimalist look the counter provides. Sometimes when you have a very intricate counter, adding things like vases, books, or candles can make it look cluttered with everything on it. This is not the case with cultured marble!
Laminate countertops are popular because of their price point, and they are durable and long-lasting in areas with low traffic (such as guest bathrooms, laundry rooms, or kid’s bathrooms). They are low maintenance and only require to be wiped down with a damp cloth when needed. Laminate countertops are versatile and come in a huge variety of finishes. They have become much better looking in recent years and there are several color and style options to choose from!
Laminate is great at mimicking natural stone while being half the price. And similar to granite, laminate is difficult to stain. Laminate is a very low maintenance material and can handle a lot before taking any damage.
