Decorating for Christmas

by Janna Chappell, EDGEhomes Designer

Christmastime is just around the corner! One thing that is sure to make the holidays even more wonderful is decking the halls and setting the mood for a festive and memorable season.  Below we have listed a few creative ways to get your home into the holiday spirit!

Wreaths

Christmas wreaths on front doors, around exterior lights, on windows, range hoods, and even interior doors are an easy and instant way to add a touch of cheer!

Greenery and Garlands

Nothing says “Christmastime” like garlands and greenery everywhere!  Naturally, there are the traditional places to put garlands (on fireplace mantles, and stairway railings, and around the front door), but there are also many more creative and festive places for greenery during the holidays.  Try stringing greenery from:

  • Chandelier or pendant lights,
  • Open shelving
  • Columns
  • Interior windows
  • Headboards
  • Mirrors

Try incorporating different elements with your garlands – like dried citrus, berries, vintage bells, pretty ornaments, or beautiful velvet + chiffon ribbons.

Mini Christmas Figurines

Collecting beautiful and sentimental Christmas figurines and then displaying them with layers of different heights, textures and colors, is such a lovely and timeless way to decorate.  Try curating a collection with:

  • Little village homes
  • Trees made from different materials
  • Candlesticks
  • Toy soldiers,
  • Lanterns
  • Vintage bells
Advent Calendars

There are so many unique and creative advent calendars that are not only beautiful and festive, but that are also super helpful in counting down the days until Christmas morning!  Try using:

  • Garland- Attach ribbon with containers with the day of the month filled with treats!
  • Christmas village-  Fill each home with special candies.
  • Stockings- Use small stockings for each day of the month and fill each one with a treat.
Hot Cocoa Station

Use a pretty, rolling bar cart or a spare side table as a designated, go-to place for a warm cup of your favorite holiday beverage!  Deck it out with:

  • Christmas linens
  • Garland
  • Plaid ribbon
  • Jars with yummy add-ins
  • Festive stir-sticks or paper straws
Holiday Scents

Last, but certainly not least, be sure to fill your home with your favorite Christmas scent this holiday season!  Help create wonderful and nostalgic memories for you and your family this year with:

  • A delicious smelling candle
  • Room spray
  • Fragrant essential oils
  • Stove top potpourri
Happy Holidays!

No matter big or small, whatever changes you make to dress up your home during the holidays, just be sure to have fun! Happy holidays!
