Opening of Pickle Park
EDGEhomes joins with The Ponds and the Ponds at Sleepy Ridge Communities for the opening of Pickle Park in Orem, Utah
(Orem, UT) – Pickle Park was officially completed and dedicated on Saturday, August 5, 2014 in honor of Katrina Lawrence and for the enjoyment of the Orem Community. The 60,000 sq. ft. park’s address is: 596 Fairway Lane, Orem, UT 84058.
The community park began as a dream of local residents, John and Catherine Whittaker. They live in The Ponds, the same close-knit Orem community as the Lawrence family. Just last year the Lawrence family lost their mother and wife, Katrina, during the birth of her sixth child. The Whittakers felt the twenty-two-home housing development should have a park dedicated to their late friend, Katrina Lawrence.
Adjacent to The Ponds, EDGEhomes was building the housing development, the Ponds at Sleepy Ridge, so the Whittakers enlisted EDGEhomes for help.
“The Lawrence’s loss was devastating for all of us,” John Whittaker said. “We wanted a place where families could go to enjoy the trees, the flowers and a peaceful environment. We asked EDGEhomes if they could help and they stepped up to the plate. [The park] pulled all the neighbors together.”
EDGEhomes provided the land, amenities, greenscape, trail system and additional parking. The landscaping was performed by Golden Landscaping based out of Orem, Utah. The community built a memorial for Katrina Lawrence so her joyful legacy can live on and continue to inspire others.
“Pickle Park was built as a gathering area for the community,” said Steve Maddox, Managing Partner, EDGEhomes. “It was planned with a spiritual vision. It’s more than just an ordinary park. It has personality. We chose upbeat colors for the playground equipment and tall trees to represent going heavenward. This was a collaboration with the neighborhood, the landscaping company and EDGEhomes. The more I got involved, the more I took ownership of it. A lot of thought was put into this besides just what’s seen on paper.”
